Online Adult Retirement Community
Greetings seniors! Welcome to the online community site that is designed just for you. Whatever country you live in whether it be the United States, Canada, England, Australia, or somewhere else; you need resources you can turn to.
This site will help you to find the resources that are available to you in the country in which you live and show you how to get the most benefits from it. Regardless of your interests, social status, or age, there is bound to be a place that is right for you; so read on.
It is estimated that in the United States alone there are anywhere between 10,000 and 16,000 senior centers. In fact the month of September is designated as national senior center month. 2 new centers just became accredited this month (there's a national list of accredited senior centers although there are many other centers that offer services without seeking accreditation). These centers provide a safe environment to associate with other seniors and enjoy fun activities and perhaps even some fitness training. They may play games like bingo which can be really exciting for older ones or perhaps organize an outing to a local restaurant which younger seniors may particularly appreciate. Whatever the case, it is a great way to meet new people and have a little fun.
Some senior centers or clubs are designed for specific purposes. For example, in Australia, there are groups specifically for grandparents. In the United States, in Kentucky, there are support services for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren
Probus is another Australian organization. They focus on semi-retired seniors and fill in the free time with activities that stimulate the mind while introducing such aging ones to each other.
These community centers also cater to the diverse peoples of various lands who have immigrated. For example, in London there is a senior center that is specifically for Armenians who are over 50. It has over 150 members and is a great way to meet other older ones who speak the language you understand the best. These groups exist for many races and religious groups.
Other senior centers may cater to those who are significantly older, and while there may be fewer activities, it may be a nice way just to enjoy a meal with some company.
Just because family doesn't come around to visit as often doesn't mean that you have to be alone. Looking into the senior community in your area can get you the association you need to stay healthy in mind and body.
